Born and raised in the southern district of Toledo, Wil Maheia's deep-rooted connection to Belize's rich biodiversity and cultural heritage has shaped his life's work. A proud Belizean and dedicated political activist, he champions education, sustainable environmental practices, and social justice for Belize and Mother Earth.
As the founder and former Executive Director of the Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE), Wil played a pivotal role in protecting southern Belize's pristine ecosystems. His work was built on collaboration, fostering key partnerships with local communities, government agencies, and international organizations to achieve conservation goals and improve the well-being of Belizean communities.
Wil's passion for his country is also evident in his other endeavors. He founded and serves as the executive producer of PGTV, a local news network dedicated to telling the stories the community needs to hear. He also established the Belize Territorial Volunteers, a group of patriots committed to protecting their country's border. As the political leader of the People's National Party, a third party in Belize, he continues to push for reform and environmental awareness, advocating tirelessly for human rights and equitable access to resources for marginalized communities.
